WordPress switch to jQuery with 2.2 "Getz" release

Only 4 months after their 2.1 “Ella” release, WordPress have released version 2.2, this time named after a jazz saxophonist Stan Getz.

The significant thing in 2.2 is the partial switch to jQuery — the self-proclaimed “write less, do more” JavaScript library — and the intention to transition all JavaScript to the library (I think they currently use Prototype) in future releases.
I’ve been meaning to write a case study about the uber-cool jQuery for months now. I’m nearly in a position to do that having used it extensively for the new Futurelab site which launches in a matter of days.

I’m pleased about WordPress’ decision on many levels; it will make my day-to-day work in blog development much easier and it will give jQuery a higher profile, hopefully launching it into the big time.
If it contributes to anything kind of improvement in the documentation, all the better.
